Class Registration Process

If you want to join Adult Basic Education classes, please complete our form to start the process. If you have any questions, call 847-214-6904 or email ABECRegistration@elgin.edu.

Step 1

Fill out the form below and call 847-214-6904 or come to Building K at 466 Renner Drive, Elgin

Step 2

New students need to bring:

  1. Photo ID (from the government).
  2. Medical Card if you get public assistance.
  3. High School Letter of separation documentation if 16 or 17 years old.

Step 3

At Building K, you will receive your ECC student ID number after you complete the intake form in person.

Step 4

Next, you must make an appointment to take a placement test at our testing center. You will also need to schedule a mandatory orientation if you are:

  • English as a Second Language (ESL) students
  • State of Illinois High School Diploma (HSE/GED) students

Orientation is required for all new students and will take 1 to 3 hours. You’ll get a QR code for face-to-face classes, and online students will get instructions through D2L, our online learning platform.

Step 5

After orientation, you’ll get your class placement. Depending on your preference, you can register for face-to-face classes or a limited number of online classes. You can borrow a Chromebook from the ECC library if you don't have a computer.

Step 6

Register for your classes.

Step 7

Start attending your classes. Congratulations on starting your path to success!
