The CRSS program at 海角社区 offers high-quality recovery support training and supervised practical experience. It also provides wrap-around support for individuals with lived experience in mental health, substance use, or co-occurring recovery. This program aims to increase the number of individuals in Illinois earning the Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS) or Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) credential. These credentials are awarded through the Illinois Certification Board (ICB d/b/a IAODAPCA). This initiative serves as a key strategy to address the behavioral health workforce shortage.

Participants in the program receive guidance from experienced professionals as they develop the communication, advocacy, and recovery support skills needed to assist individuals and families navigating recovery services. Coursework focuses on ethical practices, peer support strategies, wellness planning, and navigation of community resources. Students also gain valuable hands-on experience through supervised training opportunities that prepare them for real-world behavioral health settings. The program supports personal and professional growth while helping participants build confidence, strengthen leadership skills, and pursue meaningful careers dedicated to supporting recovery and improving community wellness outcomes across Illinois.

Admission Procedure

1. Attend a mandatory information session.
2. Completed the ECC Application for Admission.
3. Watch online orientation video through ECC welcome email and make an with an academic advisor.
4. Sign the CRSS Attestation Form, CRSS Handbook Agreement Form, and CRSS Student Acknowledgement.
5. Send a copy of your high school diploma to crss@elgin.edu.
