ECC Student Dani Macmillan stands in Building A
海角社区 (ECC) student Dani Macmillan has been dancing through life. From an early age, she knew dance would always be part of who she is.
Driven by a passion for staying active and helping others move better, she completed an associate in science-kinesiology and a bachelor of science in exercise science. Macmillan is now enrolled in ECC’s Physical Therapy Assistant program.
“It is a lot of hands-on learning, which I enjoy and how I learn best,” said Macmillan. “With my previous schooling, it felt like I was learning a lot of the same things. This [program] is so focused on PT, and that is what I want to do.”
Dancing isn’t far out of her mind, though! Macmillan plans to graduate from the PTA program in the spring of 2027 and then hopes to audition for the Indianapolis Colts cheerleaders.
“I grew up watching them, and I follow them on social media. I could dance and be a PTA,” Macmillan said. “It would be so fun to be in the professional dance environment.”
What is one thing you do outside of ECC? I work at the Delnor Hospital Fitness Center as a fitness specialist, so that takes up some of my time. It goes along with my passion for fitness.
What is one of your study hacks or habits? I like going through the learning objectives that professors post for the modules. I list them out and write down what I remember first and then go through my notes for the details. Sometimes I will use Quizlet too.
What is your favorite meal to cook or eat out? Any kind of pasta at home. Otherwise, Chick-fil-A or Raising Cane’s.
What is one thing that really makes your day? My family. We have a group chat, and since we are kind of spread out now, we are always texting. I have a nephew, so they are always sending videos and photos of him.
What surprised you about ECC? It feels like a community college wouldn’t offer as many resources as ECC does, and even within my program, they are super helpful.
What advice do you have for new students? You don’t have to have everything figured out right now. Take it one day at a time.
